As you know we are facing a major health crisis not only in our state of Minnesota, our nation, but worldwide. This is the first time in our lives in which we have seen a health epidemic to this level of severity and we want to help you and your family stay healthy.

Tips to Staying Healthy

Stay Home

Our government has taken many steps to help ensure as many people as possible are staying home by closing many establishments. That being said during this time, it is incredibly important to follow the recommendations and stay home whenever and as much as possible. This can be tough with the kiddos, but get creative! Get them moving inside with some fun drills you can find on our YouTube channel, have puzzles on hand, keep them up on their school work, get them outside (while avoiding direct contact with others; think instead of walking the dog, taking a bike ride, etc)

Social Distancing

If you do need to go out into the public be sure to practice social distancing. It is recommended that you stay at least 6 feet away from others. Avoid direct contact with any individuals whom you do not live with.

Wash Your Hands

Wash your hands and wash them very frequently. Aim to wash them for at least 20 seconds if not longer. Help your children learn the importance of hand washing and be sure to provide education on why it is so important. Simple tips when washing your hands:

  1. Turn on tap with warm water and wet hands

  2. Add about a pea sized dollop of soap to wet hands

  3. Lather hands thoroughly scrubbing in between fingers, under nails, etc. for at least 20 seconds - Think about singing Happy Birthday or the ABC’s while you wash

  4. Rinse hands thoroughly

  5. Use a clean dry paper towel to dry hands and turn off faucet

Remember if running water and soap are not readily available and hands are not visibly dirty aim to use an alcohol based hand sanitizer instead.

Keep Hands Away From Your Face

This one is especially hard with children, but do your best to monitor your children and continue to educate them on the importance of keeping their fingers out of their mouth and away from their face. This goes for adults as well. It is unbelievable how many times a day we actually touch our faces!

Avoid Groups Over 10

While this number has changed, we are now being told to avoid any groups larger than 10. This includes extended family that you do not live with. Do your best to have contact with no more than 10 persons at one time, this includes the number of people you invite into your home. During this time avoid visitors.

Cover Your Cough and Sneeze

Again, this can be tough with children, but do your best to continue to remind them to cover their cough and sneezes with a tissue or their elbow. Same goes for you mom and dad!
