Competition Season 2018/2019
Here at JHDC we are incredibly passionate about dance that is why we offer more opportunities for those students who just can't get enough! Our competitive dance companies participate in a number of opportunities throughout the year all while establishing a strong foundation of precise technicality!
Dancers new to the JHDCo. competitive program are strongly encouraged to attend our pre-competition classes in June. These classes are for students age 8 and up and will explore the various styles of dance that our competitive teams participate in so that your dancer can decide what is right for them! Dancers have the opportunity to join one or more the following companies.
Every summer in July, JHDCo. holds a 2-week long dance intensive followed by company auditions. Auditions are held on the final day of audition week. At this time dancers audition the skills and choreography they learned during dance intensives as placement for one or more of the companies listed above.
After placement competitive students receive a company shirt as a welcome gift! Dancers will take classes with their company during the 2018-2019 season taking place from August-June. During this time dancers rehearse choreography while receiving pre-professional training specific to each dance style. All competition dancers take classes on two days during the school/work week. Dancers in multiple companies may dance anywhere from two to five days a week. Each company competes at a total of five competitions during the spring of 2019 including Nationals in June! (with the exception of Vision, who competes at a total of 3 regional competitions)
If you are interested in our competitive companies but unable to attend the summer intensive or summer audition please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call us at 763.413.0647 for more information.
Pre-Competition Prep Classes: Each class will help dancers work on and refine skills to help prepare new students for intensives and auditions! Each class will have a different focus and will be held at a drop-in rate of $10/class. These classes will be taught by members of our current dance staff. The final class will be followed by a Q & A with the Dance Directors to answer any questions about what it means to participate in the competition program.
Ballet Intensive: Ballet intensive is open to all dancers age 8 and up who wish to focus more intently on their ballet technique! Highly recommended for dancers who are interested in auditioning for a competitive dance company, current company members with specific placement goals, or simply dancers who love ballet!
Dance Intensive Week 1: Dancers new to the JHDCo. competitive program are strongly encouraged to attend our Dance Intensive. Dancers will learn so much in these four days! This is an opportunity to explore the various styles of dance that our competitive teams participate in so that your dancer can decide what is right for them! New students will learn so much in these four days as well as get to know many of the new and current students that they may be dancing with in the fall. Students find it to be so much fun to try new things in a non-intimidating atmosphere all while making new friends! Dance Intensive also gives us the opportunity to get to know you! Classes will be taught by Dance Director Erin Antilla and Assistant Dance Director Adrianna Lonick
Dance Intensive Week 2: Students choose which companies they would like to audition for and register to take those classes during audition week. During this week dancers will learn skills and choreography which they will perform on adjudication day, as placement for one or more of those companies. Dancers interested in any additional opportunities including solos, duets, trios, and small groups will have the opportunity to state their interest during the time of their company audition.
Choreography Camp: Dancers will meet their company and learn choreography for all of their group dances for the competitive year.
Dancers perform at 4 local competitions in the spring and attend one national competition in June. They also perform in our annual recital.
Dancers "Revive" their inspiration and get energized for competition season after a long winter break! Dancers will enjoy master classes from dance professionals, team building activities games and lots and lots of FUN!
Dancers show their JHDC spirit in the Anoka Halloween Parade and Anoka Summer Parade!
Stars Night Out
Our annual tradition continues…
Stars Night out is an exclusive opportunity for our competition dancers to experience and appreciate live dance performance as well as take part in a master class taught by the professional dancers in the show.
